The Bosch Professional D-tect 120 is a wall scanner for locating objects before drilling, cutting or renovation work. It can identify metal, live and non-live electrical cables, wood substructures and water-filled plastic pipes in supported wall materials, while centre indication helps mark the detected object's position.

Detection performance
- Maximum detection depth for magnetic and non-magnetic metal: up to 120 mm.
- Maximum detection depth for live cables: up to 60 mm.
- Maximum detection depth for wood substructures: up to 38 mm.
- Typical locating accuracy: approximately ±10 mm under suitable conditions.
- Spot View provides targeted detection when there is limited space to move the scanner.

Operating modes
- Drywall mode for common dry construction and stud locations.
- Concrete mode for reinforced structures and embedded metal.
- Universal mode for mixed materials and general scanning tasks.
- Centre finder for locating and marking the centre of a detected object.
Recommended scanning procedure
- Select the mode that best matches the wall material.
- Place the scanner flat against the surface and move it slowly across the area.
- Scan the same location in both horizontal and vertical directions.
- Mark the object centre and its approximate edges before drilling.
- Repeat the scan after changing the mode if the wall construction is uncertain.

Power options
The dual-power system can operate from a compatible Bosch Professional 12 V lithium-ion battery or four AA alkaline batteries with the appropriate adapter. Check the selected package option to confirm which battery or adapter is included.
Important limits
No wall scanner can guarantee detection in every construction. Moisture, metal foil, conductive insulation, very deep objects, closely spaced materials and unusual wall layers can affect the result. Switch off circuits where practical, review building plans and use additional verification before drilling into a potentially hazardous area.
